The advanced search allows you to refine your search specimens using multiple criteria simultaneously. It also allows you to dynamically modify your search by adding and removing multiple criteria filters interactively. Below are the detailed instructions on how to use the individual criteria filters.
To add criteria for Geograpic Location (Jurisdiction), Taxonomy (Taxon) or Stratigraphic Layer (Stratum) to the filter, type in a specific criteria string in the appropriate input field. This will generate a dropdown list of matching terms wihtin the database. Click to select the term that corresponds to your intended search and it will be automatically added to the Current Criteria Search box. The search results will then be updated accordingly.
Time Periods (Chrons) can be dded by clicking the button and selecting the correct Time Period from the tree chart modal.
Catalogs can be added by selecting one from the dropdown list.
Filtering by images is done by checking the Contains Images box on or off.
To remove any individual criteria, simply click the X next to its label in the Current Criteria Search box. To clear all criteria at once, click the Clear All Criteria button.
The total number of specimens matching your current criteria filter will be dispplayed in the Total Results field in the Current Criteria Search box.
Viewing an individual specimen record's details can be acompished in two ways:
Click on a time period to navigate down the tree. Click the left edge of the diagram to navigate back up the tree.
